A Tale of Twin Cities
Minneapolis and St. Paul have been embroiled in a contentious sibling rivalry for decades – just ask the locals. But while the two may clash at times, their fierce pursuit to outdo each other has fomented healthy competition, leading to the creation of some top-notch entertainment destinations. There’s no shortage of sights to see in Minnesota’s Twin Cities and, in the chilly months, there are still plenty of places to go to enjoy the area while escaping its unforgiving winter weather.

Hilton Head Island is an outdoor oasis for Ohioans seeking solace in nature. Over the years, Ohioans have developed a love affair with the charming island of Hilton Head. Buckeyes flock to the South Carolina hotspot each summer for some much-needed refuge from the Midwest’s cruel weather and constant commotion, and today, the Lowcountry island draws more visitors from Ohio than anywhere else.

Primatologist Jane Goodall to sow wisdom in Ohio State event
World-renowned British scientist Jane Goodall, best known for her research on chimpanzee behavior, will soon call on the Ohio State community to roll up its sleeves and help care for the animals and the planet. “We have made a mess of this planet, what we’ve done to cut down forests and destroy habitats and cause species to become extinct,” Goodall said in an interview with The Lantern.

Bands to give Tax Day a musical twist with Columbus festival
To celebrate the ending of tax season, Grandview’s Woodlands Tavern plans to rock the night away – whether everyone has paid their taxes or not. The Back Tax Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Woodlands Tavern – two days before the country’s official Tax Day on April 15. The lineup consists of eight acts, including local bands William The Accountant, The Saturday Giant, Karate Coyote and Post Coma Network, as well as Secret Colours (of Chicago), Kink Ador (of Nashville), The Nightbeast (of Dayton) and Mike Dillon Band (of New Orleans).

Ohio State’s BuckeyeThon breaks record, raises $609K for Nationwide Children’s Hospital
Emotions ran high as tears fell at BuckeyeThon’s closing ceremonies Saturday night when thousands filled the Great Hall of the Ohio Union to await the final results of this year’s fundraiser. The annual dance marathon, which took place Friday and Saturday in the Ohio Union, raised more than $608,000 for the Hematology and Oncology Department of Nationwide Children’s Hospital – an increase of roughly 34 percent from last year’s more than $450,000.

Restaurant review: Columbus Brewing Company offers tasty meals, clean presentation, mediocre service
Restaurant Week: Columbus, a six-day event in which more than 70 area restaurants offer discounted three-course, fixed price meals, began Monday. “(614) Magazine” puts on the event twice a year in an effort to encourage people in Columbus to support local dining establishments. My roommate and I decided to take advantage of the great deals offered through the event and ate at Columbus Brewing Company, a restaurant in the Brewery District offering $20 meals throughout the week.

National Geographic tornado chaser storms into Columbus with tales from the field
While everyone else runs for cover, Tim Samaras confronts tornadoes head-on. For him, narrowly escaping these dangerous storms is just another part of the job. “There are days, of course, when you chase enough, you run across a situation where a tornado has hit a community only 60 seconds prior,” Samaras said, describing a time when his job took a turn for the worst.

But what the principality of Monaco lacks in size, it makes up for with its intriguing history and sheer modern luxury. The country, home to roughly 35,000 citizens, gives off a clean, urban vibe with upbeat energy to match.

I’m a graduate of The Ohio State University with bachelor’s degrees in anthropology and journalism. I am currently navigating through the editorial world as a Special Projects Assistant with National Geographic Kids. What drives me more than anything else is a passion for experiencing the world and sharing these experiences with others. So far I have been to more than 20 countries spanning four continents, with some of my favorite destinations including Japan, Malta, Costa Rica, and Australia. Beyond writing, editing, and traveling, my interests include (amateur) photography, cooking, crafting, spending time with family, and fighting for animal welfare. In the past I have volunteered with a small primate sanctuary, where I had the opportunity to care for a handful of gibbons and capuchin monkeys, and I hope to do more for primate conservation in the future.
